Yesterday I met with a client who’s had quite a challenging history, but one thing stood out throughout our entire session – her passion, her inner strengths, and the big dream that keeps pushing her forward.

She said a sentence that stayed with me:
“If it’s not big – why to start?”

And it made me think.
How many of us only take action when there’s a big goal or a clear achievement at the end?
How many times do we forget the journey, just because our mind is locked on the outcome?

Big Dreams – Inspiration or Blockage?

Research in positive psychology and neuroscience shows that big dreams can serve as an inner compass (goal orientation), boost our sense of meaning, and strengthen resilience.
But – and this is an important but – when the dream becomes the only criterion for motivation, it can actually block action.

In other words:
When every step has to lead to a dazzling success, we forget how to enjoy the way there.

A Goal for the Sake of a Goal?

When we do something only to be famous, rich, or recognized – it creates emotional overload, anxiety about failure, and sometimes even paralyzing perfectionism.
It’s not our fault – that’s how our culture works: emphasizing external outcomes over inner processes.

But our body and soul also need small wins, routines, quiet doing, and joy in the simple things.
Studies show that it’s actually consistent small actions, even without a “shiny” destination, that create deep and lasting change.

So What Works?

🔸 Sometimes it doesn’t have to be “big.”
🔸 Sometimes small steps bring the biggest results.
🔸 And sometimes – like with my client – we just need to remind ourselves that the real power is already within us.

And you?
What’s your big dream – does it move you forward, or does it hold you back?
