So, since I’ve started a burnout challenge with parents we were exploring our family values and how we wish to see our children when they are 20, we have an idea of what areas we would like to improve upon. Maybe we want them to be more independent. or perhaps we’d like to have fewer disagreements with them? or maybe we just want to be respected more? Most of us would like the kids to contribute more to the house and perhaps we would feel less exhausted.
I know it can be difficult to see the light in these situations!
We only want everyone to be happy and have a glass of wine, I mean tea:) However, the opposite may be occurring. Our children nag, they yell, we yell back, and the cycle continues!
If I would need to choose an example of a very demanded value that all parents seem to want, is respect.
Families I’ve coached and guided wanted to be respected. They would prefer that the children speak politely to their parents and not fight with one another.
Do we respect each other?
Let us pause for a moment and think about this. Do we show each other respect? Do we yell at our partners? Do we have disagreements? How do we deal with it? What do you think? The kids see us and copy what they see. So, can we really expect them to behave differently to us? We are, after all, their role model.
A different way of educating
I know some of you may believe in a particular method of education, but we still learn a lot from our parents. So perhaps we need to practice self-control and learn how to respond to situations that are as annoying as hell. We have the ability to make different choices!!
Begin now or give me a call!
Respect and kindness can make the world a better place. The thing that we should teach to our children and even younger ones. It is helpful that you pay attention to these things, I appreciate your work. As you mentioned we learn so many things from our family, we can say that family is our first school so parents should pay too much attention to what they do and how they act.
Indeed, as we are their role model.
